    Your First Visit

A slower, more personalised approach to skincare and wellbeing.

Treatments at Root & Moss are intentionally unhurried. Each treatment is designed to support both your skin and your nervous system - tailored to how you arrive on the day.

Your consultation is an important part of the experience. It allows me to understand your skin, lifestyle, stress levels and any areas of tension, so the treatment can be shaped around what your body and skin truly need.

This is your time to slow down and be cared for.

    Step One

    Your Consultation

All first-time clients receive an in-depth consultation before their treatment begins - a relaxed conversation, not a clinical assessment.

For first visits, I set aside up to 45 minutes purely for this consultation, in addition to your scheduled treatment time. We will gently explore your health, lifestyle and overall wellbeing, so your treatment can be tailored to what your skin or body needs that day.

This approach allows the treatment to work more holistically with both the skin and nervous system, creating results that extend beyond the surface.

Please arrive at the time of your booking. A herbal tea or water will be waiting for you while we talk.

    • Skin, body or wellbeing concerns and history
    • Lifestyle, sleep and stress patterns
    • Areas of tension or holding you may be carrying
    • Treatment goals and how you'd like to feel afterwards

For returning clients, each appointment opens with an unhurried 15-20 minute conversation - a chance to notice what has shifted in your skin, body or wellbeing since I last saw you, and where you need attention that day, so the treatment can be shaped around exactly where you are now.

If you'd like to explore the philosophy behind this first conversation more deeply, you can read about it here.

    Step Two

    Arriving for Your Appointment

A few gentle suggestions to help you settle in fully from the moment you arrive.

    • Wear loose, comfortable clothing so you can fully relax
    • Arrive at your scheduled appointment time - your first visit includes a consultation, so there is no need to arrive early
    • Come makeup-free if you can, though it is not a problem if you do not
    • For facial rituals, unwashed hair is ideal, as the treatment may include oils worked into the scalp - just let me know during the consultation if you would prefer to avoid this
    • Avoid caffeine before and after your treatment if possible

    Step Three

    During Your Treatment

I always begin each treatment with a warm towel compress to the feet. This small act of care helps the body and mind meet, signalling safety and inviting the nervous system to soften.

A few slow, deliberate breaths then guide you into the settled brain state where restorative work can truly land. From there, your treatment unfolds at an unhurried pace - shaped around what your skin or body needs that day.

    • Gentle cleansing and warm towels where appropriate
    • Facial massage, Gua Sha, lymphatic drainage, myofascial or ScarWork™ techniques where appropriate
    • Aromatherapy oils and carefully selected music to support deep relaxation
    • A slower, restorative pace throughout

    Step Four

    After Your Treatment

Always leave time after your appointment to settle into the rest of your day. Take a slower day than usual if you can.

    • Stay well hydrated throughout the day, and avoid alcohol for 24 hours
    • Choose healthy, low-salt foods so the body isn't concentrating on sluggish digestion
    • Opt for gentle movement such as walking or stretching rather than strenuous exercise
    • Avoid high heat activities for a few hours
    • For body treatments, avoid lifting heavy weights, excessive workouts and extreme heat for at least 48 hours
    • Allow yourself permission to slow down and rest if your body is asking for it
    • Take a few slow, deep breaths whenever you notice yourself rushing or holding tension

Your skin and nervous system may continue responding to the treatment over the following days - a gentle unwinding that often extends well beyond the session itself.

Sometimes the deepest part of a treatment is not what happens on the couch, but what unfolds over the following days as the body finds its way back to ease.

Before your next treatment, make a note of anything you noticed: where you felt lighter or less swollen, how long the effects lasted, any changes in comfort or movement, and anything that felt particularly beneficial. This gives us something useful to work with next time.
