    ScarWork

A gentle, hands-on approach for scar tissue - inviting the body to soften, integrate and feel more at ease again.

    Where It Began

The Original Work of Sharon Wheeler

ScarWork was developed by Sharon Wheeler, a bodyworker who began exploring the possibilities of scar tissue in the early 1970s while working with her Structural Integration clients. Through patient, receptive touch, she discovered that scar tissue could change in ways that conventional bodywork had not predicted.

Her approach grew directly out of the lineage of Dr Ida Rolf, founder of Structural Integration, yet it is distinct in its gentleness. Rather than forcing tissue to release, ScarWork listens to it - following the subtle invitations of the body until the scar begins to soften, reorganise and re-integrate with the fascial web around it.

Today, ScarWork is taught around the world to therapists from many disciplines, and its reputation continues to spread - not through aggressive marketing, but through the quiet, lasting results it offers.

    The Approach

    Presence Over Pressure

ScarWork does not treat a scar as something to break down or get rid of. It treats it as living tissue that has simply forgotten how to move with the rest of the body. The touch is light, casual and respectful - rarely uncomfortable, even for newer scars.

Every scar is unique, so there is no standard routine. The work responds to what the tissue presents: ridges, lumps, gaps, tightness, numbness or tethering. Through slow, attentive contact, the scar is invited to soften, glide more freely and settle back into the surrounding landscape of fascia.

The intention is never to force change. It is to create the conditions in which change becomes possible.

    What It Can Offer

    Benefits & Results

    Softer, Smoother Tissue

Lumps, bumps, ridges and tight strings in the scar can gradually soften and become less prominent as the tissue regains movement.

    Better Integration

Scars can feel separate from the body around them. ScarWork helps them re-integrate with the wider fascial web, improving comfort and ease of movement.

    Whole-Body Release

Because fascia is continuous, work on one scar can ripple outward, contributing to a sense of release and settling through the whole body.

    A Gentle Experience

The touch is light and unhurried. Sessions are typically calm and comfortable, with space for the body to respond at its own pace.

    A Note on Scars

    Every Scar Is Different

There is never a scar exactly like another. Surgical scars, injury scars, burn scars and stretch marks all carry different stories, and each one deserves to be met on its own terms.

ScarWork can be helpful for scars of any age. Some people notice change quickly; others find that improvement continues gradually over time. What matters is not how old the scar is, but how willing the tissue is to respond to patient, respectful contact.

If you are curious whether your scar might benefit, I would love to hear from you once this offering is open.
